AMI Procurement

Clients often approach Arbelos Partners LLC with a general idea of what they need, and this project was no different. We were able to jump right in with our expertise and really helped this client streamline its AMI procurement process.

NERC CIP v5 Implementation

Often times our clients have everything they need to succeed, they just require the resources and support to make a strategic jump. This project had a critical deadline with huge financial implications; so we worked hard for several months and the end result was truly spectacular. By ensuring consistent and transparent communication, our client was able to avoid the financial penalties associated with missing the deadline.

Power Grid Modernization

We approached this project carefully, as any grid transformation project should be. We worked with our client’s business to create a focused and effective solution - and then replicated the solution across the enterprise. We loved working with this client, and look forward to collaborating together on many more successful projects in the future.

AMI Procurement

A large Public District Utility (PUD) started its Advanced Metering Infrastructure Program effort in the second half of 2017 with the issuance of various Request for Proposal (RFP) to support the program. Arbelos Partners provided Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) advisory services to the District in support of the formal Request for Proposal (RFP) for the AMI Solution selection, System Integrator (SI), AMI Technology and Meter Data Management System (MDMS). We advised the AMI Executive in matter of resource planning, hiring, project risks and mitigation. We managed 12 PUD employees with an initial Operating Budget of $300K and planned Capital Budget of $21MM.
We were able to improved the RFP Process by streamlining the PUD procurement process. As a result, the number of planned RFPs went from 5 to 3 and we reduced the time to release 60 to 45 days.

NERC CIP v5 Implementation

In Version 5 of the Critical Infrastructure Protection (“CIP”) Reliability Standards (“CIP Version 5 Standards”), the existing versions of CIP-002 through CIP-009 have been significantly revised, and two new standards, CIP-010 and CIP-011, have been added. These complex standards and accompanying “Guidelines and Technical Basis” now stand at over 300 pages. Please note that while the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”) approved these standards in its Order No. 791, it also directed North American Electric Reliability Corporation (“NERC”) to develop and file modifications to these standards.
Arbelos Partners supported one of North America biggest Independent System Operator (ISO) implement these changes. We served as liaison between the infrastructure and application teams, coordinated all planning, testing and validation activities. As a result, we successfully coordinated the migration of critical applications into a secure network on time and on budget with minimal outages while reducing overhead by over 20%.

Power Grid Modernization

The Smart Grid Development project involved the municipal utilities for a city in Colorado. The project included citywide deployment of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). AMI allowed for implementation of demand response products and pilot testing of time-based rate programs. With these devices and programs came customer education and web portal access. Arbelos Partners developed, established and managed the overall Integration and Testing Strategy for the $100 multi-million-dollar program. We successfully implemented a streamlined methodology for the deployment of all smart grid applications resulting in the completion of the program on time and under budget, created and managed a result-driven and highly informative metrics for the executive management team to gain insight into the program progress, vendors and systems performance and managed multiple resources and vendors. 
Arbelos also played key roles in the implementation of Demand Response program. As a result, we were able to increase efficiency by building cross-departmental relationships to manage the program objectives, determine implementation strategy and vendor relationships. We reduced time on quality assurance and decreased product defects with the development of an enhanced defect tracking system for all phases the program.
